Spring 2012 Update

The bichons have been having a great spring. We’re getting Houston ready for the show ring. Cheryl has kindly volunteered to groom Houston every second weekend. It is a lot of work keeping him clean. We are wrapping his face to keep it tidy. I applied for his American registration so we can show him in the USA as well.

Lacey and Rock It are enjoying themselves running through the streams etc. They get fluffed and buffed but their coats are kept much shorter than Houston’s. We are still working on our sits, stays, downs. Rock It continues to learn more tricks. He gets so excited when he gets to perform.

Winter 2012 Update

Rock It enjoyed tracking so much that we decided to give Houston a go at it. Rock It was a natural at this sport and once Houston had an idea of what was expected of him – away he went. We practiced every day. Bob and I went to Mexico and have just returned so we will get the little fellow harnessed up and will continue. Houston is back in obedience classes and this time we are enrolled in a “small dog “class. It is a great idea as none of the little fellows can be intimidated by anything large.

Rock It is over visiting my sister and is enjoying the long walks in Stevenson. Tidal Wave has a new addition to his family and apparently is very dedicated to his new charge. We received an updated picture of Cricket modeling her new winter jacket…so very cute.

Summer 2011 Update

We are over in Richmond on a regular basis visiting with my mom. The little bichons get so excited when they see the suitcase getting packed. They adapt to any situation. We’ve had them out on walks along the dykes and they are always so interested in meeting new people and seeing new “things”…such as the oreo cows in Steveson.

Houston participated in our annual visit to the Vancouver Island Exhibition. We have done some tracking with the newfies so I wondered if our smart little cookie “Rock It” would enjoy the sport. I bought him a harness, attached a long line and set out a track. My sister kindly worked with him and he took to it instantly. His nose was on the ground and away he went. He has turns to learn but I think this little fellow is a natural.

Berrypoint’s Tidal Wave came for a visit in August. The 3 little boys had a great time chasing each other all over the place.

Spring Update

The bichons are all doing well. We have discovered new areas to walk over in Stevenson. I came home the other day and let the dogs go on a bichon blitz and noticed that Houston really needed a hair cut! He does enjoy a good fluff and buff.

Winter 2011 Update

We spent time over in Richmond visiting my parents. The bichons learned to walk nicely on leash in the city. They adapted well to travelling back and forth on the ferry. One of their favourite walks was going around Gerry Point in Stevenson…lots of dogs to meet and greet.

Summer Update

Well it certainly was our intention to attend some summer shows but Bob and I decided to go to Europe for a 3 week holiday. My sister kindly volunteered to stay at the house and look after and spoil the dogs. We did support our local kennel club and took Berrypoint’s Rock On Houston to attend a Parade of Breeds event held at the VIEX in mid August. Houston met all sorts of people and animals. He was a great meet and greet ambassador for the breed and came home exhausted.

Houston will be attending obedience and handling classes this fall and hopefully we’ll get him back into the show ring in the winter. It was a wonderful holiday and I can hardly wait to go back to Paris.

We wish you all a very Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.

Spring 2010

Berrypoint’s Rock On Houston attended his very first show and it was the American National Bichon Specialty held in Indianapolis at the beginning of May. We had so much fun and met many wonderful Bichon breeders and enthusiasts. Houston has great show spirit and attitude. He placed 4th in his Puppy Sweeps with me handling him. There are so many people to thank and especially to Dale Cheryl and Sandy.

Houston at 10 months now has 3 points towards his Canadian Championship. He took Winners one day at the Tyee show and also took second out of 11 in his Puppy Sweeps. In the Nanaimo show he took Best of Winners one day and again second in his Puppy Sweeps. We also won first in the Senior Puppy Class at the Breeder’s Classic.
Cricket also attended the Nanaimo show and for her first time out she showed well. Another of our Bichons was entered and finished her championship. We hope to get Rock It out this summer.

While at the Nanaimo show we met Colin and Christine Mills and their daughter Claire who breed Bichons under the Scotclan kennel name. They were here on a 3 week holiday from Scotland and decided to attend the dog show on the Sunday and watch our Canadian Bichons. Claire had been involved in Junior Handling and now as an adult is a member of the Scotland Bichon Club. She took a liking to Houston so I asked her if she was interested in showing him…hey you can’t come all the way from Scotland just to watch a show. Claire did a marvelous job handling the little fellow and took two points! We had a lovely visit and hope to keep in touch.

Summer shows are just around the corner. My sister is handling Rock It and has told me that the competition is on. Have a safe and wonderful summer everyone.
